Biography

He Lihong (1955) is one of China's leading contemporary printmakers and masters of woodcut. Born in Shanghai, he graduated from the Nanjing Academy of Art and lives and works in Yinchuan, in the Ningxia autonomous region. A longstanding leading figure in its art scene, he has served as director of the Yinchuan Academy of Painting and Calligraphy, president of the Yinchuan Artists Association and deputy secretary-general of the Ningxia Artists Association. He is a member of the China Artists Association and the Chinese Printmakers Association. In 1981, as the youngest selected artist, he participated in the 8th National Print Exhibition. His work has subsequently appeared in nearly thirty of China's most important exhibitions and numerous international exhibitions. He draws inspiration for his woodcuts from Ningxia and its rich natural and cultural heritage, transforming these into a contemporary, powerfully expressive visual language.
