Biography
Mohor Kejžar (born in Kranj in 1985) is an academically trained painter living and working in Sorica. After completing Škofja Loka Grammar School, he studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Ljubljana under Metka Krašovec and Herman Gvardjančič, graduating in 2016 under Milan Erič with a thesis on the skull motif in tattooing. His practice begins with figurative painting, enriched by influences from pop art, hyperrealism and contemporary visual culture. He combines realism with graphic elements to create layered visual narratives, often infused with symbolism, humour and subtle irony. His subjects emerge from everyday surroundings, the local environment of Sorica and broader cultural references, including comics, film and mass media. His interdisciplinary practice spans oil and acrylic painting, murals, graffiti, digital art, illustration, caricature, pyrography and tattooing. A plurality of media and a distinctive personal poetics explore identity, memory, absurdity and social reality. Since 2017, he has worked as a self-employed cultural professional through Art Studio Shorl; in 2018, he joined the Škofja Loka Artists Association and the Union of Slovenian Fine Artists Associations. In 2024, he was elected to the artistic council of the Škofja Loka Artists Association, where he also helps organise exhibitions and artists' colonies. He regularly participates in solo and group exhibitions at home and abroad. His work is held in permanent collections, including that of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia. Public projects also play an important role, such as his concept for an open-air gallery in Sorica, where paintings on natural surfaces establish a dialogue between art and landscape. Alongside his artistic practice, he leads art workshops and collaborates with educational institutions, extending his activity beyond the studio into the wider cultural sphere.
