Biography
Tadej Žugman, portraiture. Born in Ljubljana in 1958. After secondary school, I studied architecture, graduating in 1984 under Prof. Dr Peter Fister. I first encountered painting at secondary school. My father's landscape photographs, many on slides, provided my first lessons in composition and colour. After graduating, architecture and design took priority. Twelve years ago, I returned more actively to drawing and painting and began exhibiting. During this period, I created more than 120 portraits in oil, pastel and pencil, participated in over 30 solo and group exhibitions, and received numerous distinctions. Last year, I began a new series of paintings, RAZMIŠLJANJE OB KAVI (Reflections over Coffee). Its central motif is a cup of coffee on different tables, under sunlight, natural light or artificial lighting, exploring composition and reflections on the cup, saucer and spoon, and the play of light in a glass of water. The paintings are executed in oil on canvas in a hyperrealist and photorealist style.
